HOW IT ALL BEGAN
INSPIRATION FROM A ROLE-MODEL
When I passed Primary School, my grandparents suggested I find a better school, I had to relocate from our rural area “Dutch” to the city of Mthatha.
Looking back at my academic history, it wasn’t easy. Lack of money almost destroyed my dreams.
My grandmother was a nurse (May her soul rest in peace), she was the only breadwinner taking care of a family of twenty. Funds were limited, which prevented all to go to school. The winning formulae were to get the best grades so that your fees could be paid first.
Back when I was in primary school at Gwebindlala JSS, my grandparents would sell beer and other alcoholic beverages to generate enough funds for studying. The society would gossip about our family dynamics and labelled us as hypocrites since my grandparents were also active church members. Back in those days, beer and church were two worlds apart.
I watched my uncle Graduate from selling fat cakes to selling hotdogs, from hotdogs to burgers.
When I passed Primary School, my grandparents suggested I find a better school, I had to relocate from our rural area “Dutch” to the city of Mthatha. I moved in with my uncle, his wife, and son. Life was even harder.
My uncle was self-employed, selling fat cakes and sandwiches at my high school “Khanyisa High” so that he can take care of us. Even though I was teased at school, those were the best years of my life, that’s where I learned entrepreneurship, hustling, ambition, focus, and having fun.
He is my role model, even today, he still inspires me to Graduate and also enjoys my journey to the light side of life.
I watched my uncle Graduate from selling fat cakes to selling hotdogs, from hotdogs to burgers. Every weekend he would step to the Light Side of his life and enjoy beer, whisky, and braai with friends.
Today he owns a construction company that employs more than fifty people per project. He is my role model, even today, he still inspires me to Graduate and also enjoys my journey to the light side of life.
